Installing torch and torchvision - ReadTimeOutError

Just posting out of desperation really as I've essentially ruined my Sunday trying to install various versions of SD and running into pytorch related errors every time.

For AUTOMATIC1111, when I run webui-user.bat, I get a time out error when it tries to install torch and torchvision.

I encountered the same error with InvokeAI, and I'm also getting a pytorch error when I try to run NMKD:
(Runtime Error: PytorchStreamReader failed reading zip archive: failed finding central directory).

The full error that I get when running webui-user.bat is below or attached, can anyone advise on this at all? :

Your internet is too slow, it times out download, which is 2.1 gigs for pytorch, if i remember correctly. Try downloading at night, when there is not a high load on your ISP.

Uhh... Im not even sure that this thing is right, because for me timeout is ~15-20 minutes, without any fiddling with code or anything. From my experience it has to do with your ISP more than with anything else.

Hello open the lauch.py file in VS code or your choice of editor, on line 161 before --extra-index-url add this --default-timeout=1000 this will increase the time out time of the install. once you have installed this and its running I suggest removing it as it will not allow you to git pull unless you stash or commit the changes.

i have the same timeout while downloading 2.6g torch. it time out in around 15 second too and i have 1.5g/sec internet speed. there is also only 38 line in my launch.py, i tried reinstalling everything few time and always the same time out. even downloading the file from the link directly, it keep timing out in few seconds. it goes from 100mb/sec to death in a few sec

The line is actually in the launch_utils file, which is in the modules folder. Not launch.py. It initially didn't have any effect for me, but just persisting in running the webui-user.bat eventually got through it. Can't comment if the changed code line had any effect or if I just got lucky.

yeah i made id happend by changing the max timed out time to 100 000 since it crashed even at 50 000

If anyone stumbles across this again: This was fixed for me by running the terminal as admin user.

If you are experiencing this on HPC clusters, then you are probably trying to download python packages inside a compute node.
