A major new release including these new features:

  • ability to deal seamlessly with both British and Irish grid references;
  • new link to Recorder 6 in the Biological Records tool;
  • a new tool to add British or Irish grid references, easting/northings and lat/lons to any vector layer;
  • ability on the OSGR tool to 'paste' in any text which contains grid references (Irish or British) from which the GRs are parsed and added to the grid squares temporary layer; and
  • ability to specify date/year column in sources layer in order to generate earliest and latest year columns in aggregated atlas data (which can then be used to style atlas layers).

Many of these new features were added as a result of the online consultation which we conducted through the FSC Biodiversity website.

This release was created to deal with a problem introduced with the release of 3.4.3 of QGIS which incorporated an API change for the QGIS field selector control resulting in the biological records tool hanging. We also took the opportunity to incorporate an enhancement to the OSGR tool allowing users to choose to pan rather than zoom to a grid reference using the locate feature (resulting from work by Ian Carle).

This the first release of the plugin compatible with version 3 of QGIS. Most of the work involves refactoring code to deal with the change from Python version 2 to version 3, QT version 4 to version 5 and the QGIS API change from version 2 to version 3. There are also some minor bug fixes and a couple of significant enhancements, especially to the NBN Atlas tool.

Version 2.8.0

Complete replacement of NBN Tool with NBN Atlas Tool. The former depended on NBN Gateway web services which were retired at the end March 2017 when the NBN switched from the Gateway to the new Atlas architecture, completely replacing the web services API when they did so. The new NBN Atlas Tool is modeled on the old NBN Gateway Tool but there are a number of differences. The two main functions, 1) quickly creating WMS layers for different taxon and 2) downloading raw records, remain at the core of the new tool.
