vim-essentials is like (and includes) vim-sensible, but takes it a step further. It’s a collection of fairly non-controversial plugins and settings that are nearly universally desirable and is restricted to stuff that’s automatic - that you get benefit of without having to learn new shortcuts or read through docs.
I used to not get a proper vim setup on new VPSes because I was “only going to edit a few files”, but now that it literally takes less than 10 seconds to get almost everything I use, it really hits the spot.
Very close to vanilla, very minimal changes to .vimrc, all changes are in their own file, sourced with a comment and easy to comment out or update.
