Just commented on Reddit, so adding here too:

This is the 80/20 for me:
https://webinstall.dev/vim-essentials

vim-essentials is like (and includes) vim-sensible, but takes it a step further. It’s a collection of fairly non-controversial plugins and settings that are nearly universally desirable and is restricted to stuff that’s automatic - that you get benefit of without having to learn new shortcuts or read through docs.

I used to not get a proper vim setup on new VPSes because I was “only going to edit a few files”, but now that it literally takes less than 10 seconds to get almost everything I use, it really hits the spot.

Very close to vanilla, very minimal changes to .vimrc, all changes are in their own file, sourced with a comment and easy to comment out or update.

Just checked it out and looks super cool!

Just wondering, would this be a plugin or... what section would it be under do you think?

Well, because I think it’s the most valuable set of non-intrusive settings, I would put it up at the top with sane-er defaults.
