No way to "Create file" once an item has been selected in list view

The kebab menu either has actions that apply to the current directory, like "Create file", or actions applying to the selected item, like "Rename". But once an item has been selected in list view, there is no way to get "current directory" version of the kebab menu back since there is no way to cancel the selection (while staying in list view).

Cancelling the selection is possible in the grid view, by hunting for a blank space that is within the rows of the icons. Not all blank space in the card will cancel the selection, probably because the ".fileview-wrapper" element doesn't cover the whole card.
