Data not received as a string

Hi,

I am running version 1.1.0-beta.3 on Grafana v12.0.1+security-01 connecting to eclipse-mosquitto 2.0.18 on docker.

If i subscribe to house/hotwater/temp the integer value is received.
If i subscribe to house/hotwater/status the expected string "on" or "off" or "admin_off" is not received.

Your documentation states "This plugin automatically supports topics publishing numbers, strings, booleans, and JSON formatted values."

Any help appreciated.

Thank you for reporting this! I've identified the issue and implemented a fix.

You're correct that the plugin currently expects JSON-encoded values, but your MQTT publishers are sending raw string values like "on", "off", "online", etc without JSON formatting.
The current parser fails when it receives raw strings because they aren't valid JSON (valid JSON strings need quotes: "on" vs just on).
I've updated the framer to handle raw string values as a fallback when JSON parsing fails. This means both formats will now work:
Raw strings: on, off, admin_off ✅
JSON strings: "on", "off", "admin_off" ✅
JSON objects: {"status": "on"} ✅

The fix will be included in the next release. You can track the progress in #137.
Workaround (if you need immediate solution): Configure your MQTT publishers to send JSON-formatted strings: "on" instead of on.
