๐โโ๏ธ Support & Feedback: RightMenu Master (Finder Search Results - Cannot Grant Folder Permission) #16
Comments
Update: After upgrading to v1.16.0 from v1.14.0 the issue of the popup is gone, but the core issue of the permissions remains. Now, instead of annoying popup, the symptom is the right-click menu stating: "Folder access required" TBH this is a much better improvement (not solution tho) --- I was getting very upset at the permission popup because very frequently I right-click search items and it would take over without even the option to cancel lol |
@tyhallcsu Yes, after upgrading to 1.16.0, the prompt no longer appears directly. Instead, a menu notification will indicate that authorization is required. This happens because you havenโt granted permission to the folder. Due to Appleโs policy on Finder extensions, after a restart, the main app cannot share permissions with the Finder extension. The Finder extension needs to be reauthorized for directory access, but the main app does not require repeated authorization. ![]() |
Oh, I see the issue now. If youโre using an external drive, the permissions may have expired. Iโll try to fix this issue. |
No, the external drive was just used in the screenshot. The issue persists for me when I use any search in the Finder app. If you need more from me, ill provide -- just let me know. I hope you can replicate my issue for fixing..? PS -- "Macintosh HD" is the main drive for my Mac, it isn't external |
@tyhallcsu Thank you for the detailed information. Iโve confirmed the issue, and Iโll need some time to investigate the cause. I appreciate your patience! |

Title: ๐ง Finder Search Results - Cannot Grant Folder Permission
Description:
When using Finder.app search and right-clicking on any file or folder in the search results,
I receive the following popup message:
However, when I click โGrant Folder Permission,โ the app prompts me to authorize my user folder (not even the selected file's parent directory). The issue is that this only occurs in search results, not when accessing files in a specific directory.
I have already added / (root) and specific directories from the search results to the authorization settings, but the issue persists. There is no way to grant the required permission for search results specifically.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Finder.app and perform a file or folder search.
2. Right-click on any result from the search.
3. The permission popup appears asking to grant access.
4. Click โGrant Folder Permission.โ
5. The app requests authorization for the parent directory of the selected item, not the search results themselves.
6. Adding / or specific directories does not resolve the issue.
Expected Behavior:
โข The app should correctly handle permission requests for files/folders in Finder search results without requiring manual authorization for each parent directory.
โข Once permission is granted, the operation should proceed normally.
Actual Behavior:
โข The app requests permission for the parent directory instead of the search results.
โข Even after authorizing multiple directories, the issue persists.
Environment:
โข App: RightMenu Master
โข Version: 1.14.0 (33)
โข OS: macOS (Sequoia 15.3.1)
Additional Context:
This issue occurs only in Finder search results and not when interacting with files in a regular directory.
Would appreciate any guidance or a fix for this. Thanks!
