1. Edit the script 'chase' and change the following variables
according to your system features:

CHASE_HOME='THE_DIRECTORY_WHERE_CHASE_TOOL_IS'
JAVA_HOME='YOUR_JDK_HOME_INSTALLATION'

2. Change yourself to the chase directory:
   cd $CHASE_HOME

3. Use 'chase':
   ./chase file1.java [otherfiles.java]

'file1.java' is the file you want to check for freeness conditions and
'otherfiles.java' is a list of files which are mention and/or used in
'file1.java'. 'otherfiles.java' can be a regular expression such as
dir1/dir2/*.java, for instance. Et voilà! (and that's all!).

# Examples: 'The Purse JavaCard application'
#**********************************************
This tool has been tested with the files of an electronic purse case
study. A first step would consist in trying these files before trying
your own ones. For example, if you want to try the class
'Decimal.java' of the purse distribution, you should do:

1. cd $CHASE_HOME

2. ./chase src/utils/Decimal.java src/utils/*.java src/javacard/framework/*.java
src/pacapinterfaces/*.java src/javacard/framework/*.java  

Moreover, if you want to try all the files in package 'purse' of the
purse distribution, you can use the Makefile file that the chase
distribution ships:

export CHASE_HOME='THE_DIRECTORY_WHERE_CHASE_TOOL_IS'
make -f $CHASE_HOME/Makefile purse

# ABOUT THE 'ASSIGNABLE' SPECIFICATIONS
#**********************************************
Basically, you can annotate your Java classes with 'assignable'
specifications according to JML.
(see http://www.cs.iastate.edu/~leavens/JML/prelimdesign/prelimdesign_toc.html
for a more detailed explanation).

For example, the specification of some method 'throwIt' looks like:

  modifies instance, instance.type ;
 */
public static void throwIt (byte t) throws PacapException {
  if ( instance == null ) {
    instance = new PacapException(t);
  }
  else {
   instance.setType(t);
  }
  throw instance;
}

There, the method declares modifiable (clause 'modifies') the
locations 'instance' and 'instance.type'.
