kando not detecting where screen center is correctly in hyprland

for some reason, kando thinks my screen center is to the top left of my screen if I set my monitor to have any scale greater than 1. I had to add the a centerwindow windowrule to have kando's overlay get centered to the screen, but that workaround doesn't really help with kando knowing where on the screen my mouse cursor is. is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? sorry for the the wall of text in advance.

I copy/pasted the exact window rules that are in the hyprland section of the readme, I didn't alter them in any way.

My monitors are configured like this

monitor = eDP-1, preferred, auto, 1.5
monitor = DP-2, 3840x2160@120, auto-right, 3
monitor = unknown-1, disable

I open kando using the keymap alt+space, and when it launches, it's not quite where I would expect it to be, even the gear icon that is supposed to be on the bottom-right corner of the screen to access the settings, is almost in the middle of the screen instead.

When in cursor mode, I expect kando to spawn on the cursor, but it spawns at different coordinates. For example if my cursor was in the very center of the screen, and I run kando, it would spawn away from the cursor, closer to the top left corner of the monitor than to the center of the screen.

The workaround I found to be able to use kando is by adding this window rule:

windowrule = centerwindow, class:^(kando)$

But this only let's me use kando in center mode, but it still has issues knowing where my mouse is relative to my screen. This is only an issue if the scale is set to anything other than "1", with the scale being set in the monitor settings, the very last value in the line. In my case, for eye comfort, I have it set to "1.5", but I also tested "2" and the problem worsened.

That is interesting as it suggests that Kando's windows is actually not full screen in this case. Can you change the window rules to show a border for the window and see if it covers indeed the full screen?

Heyo. I have the same exact issue and similar monitor setup as OP.

Kando's window is full screen, it just appears shifted up and to the left. The workaround that I found was the following window rule:

windowrule = move 0% 0%, kando

which does not include rescaling Kando and is strange because the rule should not be moving the application at all and perhaps only resolves the issue by forcing Hyprland to override control of the application's placement from Kando, which suggests that the issue lies on Kando's end. This also reproduces the same problem as OP's workaround where it doesn't function outside of center mode, mostly because of how Kando now seems to process the center of the screen as shifted down and to the right.

Here is a screen recording of Kando interacting with Hyprland scaled at 1.5 and only the recommended window rules from the readme:

And here is the same setup except with the added move window rule, where it becomes difficult to use because of how it incorrectly identifies the location of the cursor as shifted down and to the right:

The window-cursor discrepancy can be more clearly seen with Kando being in Centered Mode with the Warp Mouse setting toggled on:

Kando works completely smoothly with Hyprland scaled at 1.0, but that scaling is too uncomfortable for my eyes to maintain long-term.

Hope this helps with identifying what's causing this, and feel free to ask for more documentation on what it looks like from the user end. I think Kando is a really cool way to navigate linux and hope to be able to use it on my setup someday. :)

Looks like with windowrule = move 0% 0%, kando, only the initial pointer position is wrong. Kando gets this with hyprctl -j cursorpos here.

So if you run Kando from source, you could replace

      pointerX: cursorpos['x'],
      pointerY: cursorpos['y'],

with

      pointerX: cursorpos['x'] / 1.5,
      pointerY: cursorpos['y'] / 1.5,

as a workaround, I suppose. If this really does the trick, we would have to figure out how to get this number in the code...

Tested it with the cursorpos code modifications and it is even worse somehow? Experimented with some different values too and it behaved very strangely. I really don't know what's causing it. I will revisit it later when I have more time and will of course let you know if I find anything, but figured I should post an update anyway in the meantime.
