Location Types

Locations can be saved in one of two forms in Helios Calendar, as a Custom Location or Saved Location.

Custom Locations

Custom Locations are locations with data (address, phone, contact, etc) saved for single use with the specific event, or event series, the location is assigned to. These types of locations can only be used within Helios for other events if the location is manually reentered for subsequent events.

When an event with a Custom Location is viewed it's event details page does not include an embedded Google Map however it does still contain Weather and Map links within the Location section of the page, provided the Custom Location includes the data required for these services (address, zip code, etc).

Saved Locations

Saved Locations are locations with data (address, phone, contact, etc) saved separately from the events they are associated with. Saved Locations are manged within the Locations section of the Helios Calendar admin console. Saved Locations offer the following features unavailable for Custom Locations.

• Public Calendar Location Profile
• Custom description containing details about the location (including custom HTML & media - using TinyMCE).
• Location Specific Tools (Map, RSS Feed, Social Sharing, Email to Friend, Weather, Directions & More)
• Custom SEO Content (Page Title, Meta Keywords & Description, Page Structure)
• Location Comments
• Easily assigned to multiple events (using AJAX Location Search, or Select List - depending on selection setting).
• Unique pushpin displayed in the location browse Google Map
• Unique RSS feed containing the Location's events
• Available in “Search by Location” option for event search
• Can be easily merged with other locations to combine events for a single (merged) location.
• Added to the Location Sitemap

Location Submission

If public calendar users submit Custom Locations matching existing Saved Locations admin users can switch the location assignment of the event(s) while approving Pending Events.

Additionally, if users submit Custom Locations that are new to the calendar admin users can convert them to Saved Locations (for use with future events) by checking the “Save as New Location” checkbox before approving the event and Helios Calendar will convert the Custom Location to a Saved Location as part of the approval process.
